On Midsummer's Day 1687, the Great Pit collapsed. The open workings of the Falun copper mine fell in on themselves, forming a crater a hundred metres deep. No one died. The miners were at home, celebrating Midsummer.

That's where this evening begins.

We gather by the slag heaps and walk through Elsborg, the quarters where the miners lived. 1.4 kilometres, six stops. I'll tell you about the people who ended up here, why they did, and about a neighbourhood that was nearly demolished in the 1970s but was saved and today forms part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The walk ends at a long table in a cellar down by the river. Three courses, composed by Ted Stöffling at Plock, built around ingredients and flavours at home in 17th-century Bergslagen. The storytelling continues between the courses.

This isn't a regular guided tour. It's an evening.

The evening includes

  • Guided walk through Elsborg (about 60 minutes, 1.4 km)
  • Three-course dinner at Plock, inspired by 17th-century Bergslagen
  • Storytelling throughout the evening
